RA Series Helical Worm Gearboxes

The two-stage helical worm design yields more output torque in a shorter assembly than an equivalent two-worm gearbox. The gear train is engineered for smooth, quiet operation. Precision-ground alloy-steel gears and a bronze worm wheel efficiently transmit power, so the unit runs cooler and quieter than a comparable single-stage worm box. Bearings and seals are chosen for industrial duty, as such, the unit absorbs shock loads and maintains performance even in demanding conditions. Varvel designed the RA series for easy integration. Standard hollow output shafts and included torque arms allow versatile mounting (foot-mount or torque-arm configurations), while input flanges support common motor standards, including metric IEC and even NEMA adapters.

Each RA unit is factory-filled with long-life synthetic oil and sealed with high-quality lip seals. This sealed-for-life design greatly reduces upkeep. The robust sealing also means the gearboxes hold IP55 (or better) protection and can be optioned with ATEX certification or food-grade seals. RA gearboxes are built for heavy industrial duty. Gear shafts are case-hardened and ground, and output shafts run on roller bearings to handle misalignment and side loads. For higher-torque or specialised service, Varvel offers reinforced bearings and torque-limiter options.
