The RN Series from Varvel is a line of high-performance parallel shaft gearboxes designed to deliver efficient power transmission across a wide variety of industrial applications. With a modular construction and two or three stages of reduction, this series offers flexible gearing solutions while maintaining the mechanical robustness required in demanding operational settings. Covering six frame sizes and reduction ratios from 6.3:1 up to 710:1, RN units provide output torques reaching up to 3,400 Nm, making them ideal for applications that need compact gearboxes with large torque capacity.

Features of The RN Series

Built with both reliability and ease of service in mind, the RN Series features input and output oil seals made from NBR, and depending on size, housings constructed in pressure-die-cast aluminium (up to size 3) or grey cast iron (sizes 4-6) for extra structural strength. Internally, gears are manufactured from cemented and hardened alloy steel and run on precision ball or tapered-roller bearings, which supports quiet operation and long service life. The gearbox is filled with synthetic oil designed to last for the life of the unit, reducing routine maintenance requirements. With typical angular backlash of only 20′–30′, the RN Series also offers smooth motion control and reliable output under load.

Modularity is a key strength of the RN Series: from simple free-input shaft models to input-flange or geared-motor (MRN) versions, the design supports various configurations. Optional upgrades include special seal materials (Viton, silicone) for high/low temperature or food/chemical sectors, anodised housings for marine or ship-board use, ATEX certification for hazardous zones, and NEMA/servo-motor compatible flanges for global machine integration.
